Huzzah! It appears that Rare has officially been released from its torturous labors in Microsoft’s Kinect mini-game dungeons. At today’s E3 Microsoft press conference, Rare announced that it is developing a pirate-themed multiplayer game called Sea of Thieves . Details are scarce, but in the reveal trailer we saw players grouping up to sail ships, have adventures on tropical islands, and of course score lots of delicious booty. Sea of Thieves is an Xbox exclusive, which apparently means that it’s exclusive to the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
Fans who prefer to revel in Rare’s storied past also have an opportunity to do so. Microsoft is releasing the Rare Replay Collection . It includes thirty classic Rare games such as fan-favorites Battletoads , Banjo-Kazooie , and (my personal guilty pleasure) Viva Piñata . For obvious reasons, no Donkey Kong Country games will appear in this collection. The Rare Replay Collection is coming to the Xbox One on August 4, 2015.
