RUMOR: EA Closing Visceral Melbourne?

RUMOR: EA Closing Visceral Melbourne?

None

It would appear that hard times have fallen upon the EA studio behind the highly acclaimed Dead Space series. According to the Melbourne chapter of the International Game Developers Association, the Australian arm of EA’s Visceral Games studio will be shutting down, its staff meeting with human resources personnel this Monday, September 19.

Though there is, as of yet, no official comment from EA or any of its subsidiaries, Melbourne’s IGDA posted to its twitter, “More sad news emerging about #EAVisceral Melbourne studio closure. Happy to help all affected in any way we can.”

A professional society, the IGDA works directly with over 10,000 game developers in pursuit of its mission, “to advance the careers and enhance the lives of game developers.” They are a private body, though, and do not speak for EA Games or any of its studios. That said, the game development industry has run into some trouble in Australia as of late, with THQ’s closure of both its studios there earlier this year. It would be unfortunate, but not out of place, for EA to follow suit with its Melbourne studio.
