Sega of Japan Seeking Input for Franchise Revival

Sega of Japan Seeking Input for Franchise Revival

Here’s an opportunity that doesn’t come often: Sega of Japan is soliciting input from its fans about which franchises they’d like to see revived for current-generation consoles. When the company made the switch from a hardware-centric to a software-centric model many years back, a few beloved franchises met quiet ends. Others were briefly revived and subsequently laid to rest, while the most popular – I see you, Sonic the Hedgehog – remain prolific today.

In the fully-Japanese survey , Sega asks questions about which franchises fans love most. The list includes heavy-hitters like Virtua Fighter, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA, Yakuza, Panzer Dragoon, Etrian Odyssey , and more. The company also wants to know about fans’ favorite characters, and finishes by asking which single series from pre-2014 they’d like to see brought back. I can think of a few: Gunstar Heroes , Shining Force , Ristar…

The results of this survey will be announced on the Japanese Sega Fes livestream on November 20 at 6 a.m. JST. I have to wonder just how much impact fans’ voices will have on the company’s development decisions going forward.
