When people think of Shin Megami Tensei spin-offs they probably think of the ever-popular Persona franchise, however, there are many others including the great Devil Survivor. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is one of the best games in the franchise and even one of the best Tactics RPGs on the market. It was released in January 2009 and made it to the rest of the world a few months later. The game even received an enhanced port for the Nintendo 3DS called Devil Survivor: Overclocked. Funnily enough, the enhanced port wasn’t as successful critically as the original so some fans might say this is the best way to experience this story. You can read our review here.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Premise
In this title, you’ll take on the role of a second-year high schooler as you navigate several districts in Tokyo. The game has a more open story, allowing the player to make choices that affect which characters and battles are available later in the game. Speaking of battles, the combat involves the player taking turns with AI combatants to defeat enemies and complete miscellaneous mission conditions. You’ll control the player character alongside two supporting characters.
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Main Characters
- Protagonist — The player character who is a high school student caught in a battle for survival in Tokyo.
- Yuzu Tanikawa — A friend of the protagonist and one of the main characters. She’s known for her caring and somewhat anxious personality.
- Hibiki Kuze — Another key character who is a part of the protagonist’s circle. He plays a significant role in the story.
- Keisuke Takagi — A high school student and a close friend of the protagonist, known for his serious demeanor and tactical mindset.
- Maya Kuroki — A high school student with a strong-willed personality who becomes involved in the fight for survival.
- Ryoji Kaji — A character who appears later in the game with a complex background and motivations.
- Demi-Fiend — The protagonist from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne who makes a cameo appearance in this game.
