Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga is a two-part franchise developed by Atlus during the PlayStation 2 era. The first entry was released in Japan in 2004 before making it to the rest of the world in the subsequent years. You take control of the characters Serph, Heat, Argilla, Gale and Cielo throughout the interesting narrative and enjoy gameplay similar to other SMT titles. You can read our review here!

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga Premise
The first entry in the Digital Devil Saga duology follows the Embryon as they fight against five other tribes in a digital world. Similar to the other SMT titles, the game uses a Press Turn turn-based system. This allows for players to gain extra turns through good play and lose turns through poor or unlucky play. Press Turn is one of the best RPG gameplay systems of all time since it allows for skill expression whereas most other battle systems in this genre would not.
Digital Devil Saga Main Characters
- Serph: Leader of the Embryon tribe, calm and composed.
- Heat: Hot-headed and aggressive, serves as the Embryon’s second-in-command.
- Argilla: Compassionate and empathetic sniper of the group.
- Gale: Strategist of the team, known for his logical and analytical approach.
- Cielo: Easygoing and cheerful, serving as the Embryon’s aerial support.
- Sera: A Mysterious girl central to the plot, connected to all the main characters.

Unlockables
Completion bonuses
Successfully complete the game and save when prompted after the ending sequence and credits. Load the cleared game file to start with all previously learned combos and Mantras from the previous game session. You can also learn the Human Form skill and fight a bonus Boss.
New game+
Beat the game. After viewing the ending and credits, the game will ask you to save your file (This save will have the words NEXT CYCLE and EXTRA on it). Load that file to begin a new game+. You start back at level 1 with minimal money and items; However, all learned combos and mastered/purchased Mantras from the previous game will carry over into the new game. A next-cycle game also lets your characters learn the Human Form skill and unlocks an optional super boss for you to fight.
Secrets
Easy experience and money
When in the underground waterway close to the third save point, you will encounter a Pixie with about 300 HP. Knock it down to about one-half of its HP (use physical immune to expel), then wait for it to call for reinforcements. A High Pixie (also about 300 HP) should appear. Kill the High Pixie in one round, and the Pixie will summon another during the next round or so. Repeat this as many times as desired.
