Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is held aloft by many as a shining example of what can happen when Kojima’s games are so firmly entrenched in pop-culture that they lose sight of their status as a game. An extremely complete experience, it mixes the series’ trademark stealth component with a survival aspect, demanding that Snake be fed to maintain his stamina and treated for his more serious injuries. It also does away with the Soliton radar from the first two Metal Gear Solid entries—this is a prequel, after all—and the knowledge of enemy line-of-sight provided therein. ![]()
