Sony Ads Accused of Being Racist and Too Sexy

None

Sony is in the press again for its newest controversial PSP ad campaign. The company is being accused of being sexually explicit and racist.

New ads for the white PSP in Europe using slogans like “Your Girlfriend’s White Bits Here” and “Saucy emails won’t get you fired here” are stirring up trouble for the company from people who find the ads offensive. The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) does not plan to pursue action against Sony. They feel that the ads “did not contain any explicit language or images that were likely to cause serious or widespread offense to adults or harm children.”

Another ad being presented in Holland for the white PSP shows a sexy scantily clad (in white) white woman with bleach blond hair glaring at a black man. In addition to her steely stare, the woman stands above the man and has her pasty hand clenching his chin maliciously. The black man is staring back fearfully. The ad reads “Play Station Portable White is Coming.” This ad is being responded to with much criticism and shouts of racism.

The last ad that has people upset is ad calling for viewers to “Take A Running Jump Here” posted in the subway stations. This ad is viewed as irresponsible by some.

We think Sony will probably dodge the bullet on this one, but we must admit we are wondering what Sony was thinking. We will keep you posted if more evolves from this story.
