Sony Waiting To Reintroduce The Last Guardian

Sony Waiting To Reintroduce The Last Guardian

How many E3s has it been since Sony first showed off The Last Guardian ? 4? 5? Frankly, we have all lost count, as delay after delay after delay kept pushing back this successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus . Originally slated to be one of the first games released for the PS3, it is now little more than a joke, the forever hopeful wish of Team Ico fans everywhere. And yet, even though it’s plain to see that The Last Guardian has essentially become the gaming world’s new Duke Nukem Forever , Sony still insists that the team is ready and willing to make the game.

“The team is still there in SCE Japan Studio, [creative director Fumito Ueda] is still there, but we are still waiting for the time to reintroduce it,” Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida told Game Informer at the 2013 Tokyo Game Show. This news comes only a month after Ueda himself said that the game was still under earnest development, but currently was being outshined by other priority titles such as Knack and Puppeteer .

Sony has said before that the game will ship when it is “absolutely ready,” but the fact that the game still seems stuck in development hell, and we haven’t seen any significant news from the development team since it was first announced, besides putting it on hiatus , bodes ill for this little kid and his gryphon… which is something, considering this is a Team Ico game.
