Square Enix Considers Bringing MMO To The Vita

Square Enix Considers Bringing MMO To The Vita

None

According to Square Enix’s Hiromichi Tanaka, Square is considering bringing older Final Fantasy games to the PS Vita. One game they are considering, however, may surprise you.

Supposedly, Square is thinking about bringing a Final Fantasy XI port to the PS Vita so you can level grind on the road. This would make FF XI one of the first commercially-made, mainstream, portable MMOs, and the PS Vita’s 3G connection will allow you to play it anywhere you get reception. There are no concrete plans to port the game as of yet, but Tanaka made it clear that it was a possibility.

Our question is “who cares?” With Final Fantasy XIV being such a huge bust, and Final Fantasy XI still dropping in popularity, are people really going to shell out full price for the opportunity to play the game on the road? It’s cool and all, but it’s certainly not World of Warcraft. Final Fantasy XI was released back in 2002. It’s pretty much past its prime in terms of hype.

Still, we would like to see Square do it just to show that it is possible, because portable MMOs of any kind are pretty cool. Also, allowing MMOs to suck away our precious time even when we are traveling will be the death of us all.
