Star Fox 2 Developer Had no Idea the Game Was Releasing

There’s an unrelenting sense of shock in most gamers’ minds right now as the announcement of the Super NES Classic Edition’s release reaches their ears. Even more minds were blown, however, over the news that the previously unreleased Star Fox 2 will appear on the retro console. It would seem that fans aren’t the only ones to be surprised, though.

One of the original developers on Star Fox 2 , Dylan Cuthbert, was just as shocked as the rest of the world when he heard about the release. He said in a way he was happy about it, because it allowed him to share in everyones surprise and excitement equally. Cuthbert is undeniably enthused to know that the game will finally be seeing the light of day.

He made mention that the ROM versions of Star Fox 2 that have been floating around the Internet are not complete versions of the game. While cool, Star Fox 2 ROMs “lacked the final magic,” and were supposedly running in debug mode, which made the encounter systems inaccurate. This version of Star Fox 2 on the Super NES Classic is likely to be a mastered version of the game. It was entirely finished, but never given to the public because of a changing market at the time.

Isn’t it crazy to learn that one of the developers of Star Fox 2 was just as oblivious about the upcoming announcement as the rest of the world? What do you think of the Super NES Classic, and Star Fox 2 on it? Let us know in the comments!
