Star Wars VII is Called “The Force Awakens”

Star Wars VII is Called “The Force Awakens”

At long last, after waiting several months to find out what the name of the next Star Wars movie will be since it was first announced back in March , Lucasfilm and Disney have announced that the subtitle for first film in the new trilogy will be “ The Force Awakens ”.

According to Polygon, both companies have also confirmed that principal photography for the movie has finished, which started back in a couple months after The Force Awakens’ announcement (then just referred to as “ Star Wars: Episode VII ”) in May.

Production of the film began at London’s Pinewood Studios, and it’s directed by J.J. Abrams, who also directed the reimagined Star Trek movies. What’s more is that the movie is also said to take place 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi , with original cast members , such as Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and more, returning to reprise their roles in The Force Awakens .

It’s also believed that The Force Awakens will be inspired by the original trilogy’s artist , the late Ralph McQuarrie, suggesting that the new Star Wars movie will return to its roots and favor more practical and physical sets pieces, assets and effects rather than elaborate CGI sequences. The iconic X-Wing has also been confirmed to feature in the movie, and it’s believed that the Millenium Falcon will also make an appearance as well.

Furthermore, one  the actors from The Force Awakens’ cast, Oscar Isaac, has revealed that the new Star Wars trilogy will embrace the spirit held by the original trilogy, whilst also being “ more fiery and messy ”, basically meaning that J.J. Abrams is looking to utilize sets and extras wherever possible, with some scenes apparently containing “ hundreds of Stormtroopers.

The Force Awakens is currently slated to debut next year on Friday, December, 2015. We’ll bring you more news on the new Star Wars film should further information reach our ears.
