Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Cheat Codes, Glitches, and Unlockables for Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and More

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Cheat Codes, Glitches, and Unlockables for Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and More

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is considered by many to be the absolute pinnacle of the Street Fighter series, and for good reason. This title has not only brought fans some of the most iconic visuals, but even the most iconic moments in fighting game history. The title originally released in 1999 for arcades before being ported to many other platforms. At the time the game was praised for being another good Street Fighter iteration but criticized for not changing enough. Today, we look back at this game for being one of, if not the best title in the whole franchise.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Premise

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is the third and final installment of Street Fighter 3. This title brought Chun li back to the roster while also introducing four brand new characters. All the characters from previous Street Fighter 3 releases were also present. One of the most memorable aspects of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike was the parry system. Some critics criticized the game for thinking these small changes would be enough to warrant purchasing the game a third time but as stated before some of the game’s best moments were found through this parry mechanic.

Glitches

Akuma’s Shakunetsu Hadoken Juggle

Due to a programming bug, it’s possible to juggle the Fierce version of Akuma’s Shakunetsu Hadoken. To do this, your opponent must jump forward into the tip of the fireball. If done correctly, the character will be knocked back in the air, but the game will register that only the first hit of the Shakunetsu Hadoken connected. The rest of the fireball will continue across the screen as if nothing happened. In order to connect the other two hits, you have to dash forward to scroll the screen and keep the Shakunetsu Hadoken going for as long as possible. If timed well, all three hits can connect separately.

Chun-Li’s Infinite Head Stomp Acceleration

Usually, Chun-Li can perform a maximum of 10 head stomps if she’s in the corner. After that, the game will automatically push her away from the wall, forcing her to miss the opponent. However, this limit can be glitched by having Chun-Li jump backward against the wall, and have the opponent run underneath and block as usual. The game will still push her slightly away from the wall after the 10th stomp. But if you position the opponent underneath and have them block, you can continue stomping forward all the way across screen until both characters reach the opposite corner.

Since you’ve already passed the programmed limit, you won’t be pushed back a second time, thus allowing you to stomp infinitely. This glitch also affects Chun-Li’s jumping speed. Each time her stomp is blocked, her sprite gains some acceleration. If you do a wall jump or your opponent parries one of these glitched head stomps, Chun-Li will go flying across the screen at a high speed. She can still attack, parry, and wall jump while in this accelerated state.

Freezing Urien

When playing as Remy against Urien, try to get hit right after his neutral throw animation connects. The most common way to do this is when Urien’s Aegis Reflector is triggered. Not only does it let you escape from the Super Art, but it completely freezes Urien as well. He will be unable to attack or even move until Remy hits him again.

Gill Gauntlet Glitch

When you start up game, let the intro play out entirely and enter demo mode. The game will go to a CPU-controlled character select screen, and will choose a fighter. Look closely when the Super Art selection screen appears. When the CPU selects the Super Art, you’ll see the red circle around it be highlighted. When the circle is about halfway around, press the Start button. If done correctly, Alex’s character portrait will appear on the screen, but with the other fighter’s Super Art selection. Choose whichever you want and continue to the opponent selection screen. If the glitch is active, every single opponent will be replaced by Gill. This glitched arcade mode will work only as long as you’re playing as the fighter chosen by the CPU; even if you lose and continue as the same fighter, your opponents will still be Gill. But if you continue and try playing as a different fighter, the opponents will go back to normal.

Gill Playable Glitch

It is possible to play as Gill via a glitch. It requires two controllers, and uses a similar setup as the Glitched Super Arts. When you start up the game, let the intro play out entirely and enter Demo Mode. The game will go to a CPU-controlled character select screen, and will choose a fighter. Look closely when the Super Art selection screen appears. When the CPU selects the Super Art, the silver oval with the name of that Super Art will flash. As soon as it does, press the 2nd Player Start Button. If timed correctly, the 2nd Player character select screen will appear and the game will reset to a 2nd Player Arcade Mode.

Play through as normal until you reach Gill. When the VS screen pops up before the match, press the 1st Player Start Button. The game will announce that’s time to fight a new rival. However, the 1st Player character select will be glitched. It will automatically choose Alex, but display Gill’s Super Arts. Regardless of which Super Art you choose, Gill will be playable via the 1st Player controller. Aside from lacking a few move cancels he has in the console versions, he is fully functional. If Gill wins, the game will automatically roll over to a new 1st player Arcade Mode with him still as the playable character. You also have to redo this glitch each time you reset and start a new game. Also, do not try to activate this glitch during a bonus round, as it will crash the game.

Glitched Super Arts

This glitch requires two controllers. As soon as it does, press the Start button. If timed correctly, Alex’s character portrait will appear on the screen, and it will also display the Arcade Mode opponent selection menu. However, do not select an opponent. Instead, press the Start button on the Player 2 controller, and the game will bring up the Versus Mode character select screen.

At this point, use the Player 2 controller to choose a fighter and their Super Art. Immediately after that while the screen goes dark, use the Player 1 controller to choose your character and their Super Art. Select your character using only LP, MK, or HP. If done correctly, the properties of your character’s Super Art will be glitched depending on which character the CPU chose in Demo Mode. For example, the CPU’s first choice is always Ibuki and her Kasumi Suzaku. That means any glitched Super Art you use will have 3 short meters and let you use more EX moves, but only aerial Super Arts will activate. If the CPU chooses Dudley, Super Arts that normally have a single long meter — Hugo’s Gigas Breaker, Necro’s Magnetic Storm, etc. — will have 2 shorter meters. However, Super Arts with time limits — Oro’s Tengu Stone, Yun’s Genei Jin, etc. — automatically cancel themselves after one use.

Q’s Deadly Double Interruption

Q’s Deadly Double Combination usually involves a powerful punch and a hammer strike. But if the combo is interrupted by another Super Art when the first punch connects, the animation will stop, both characters will freeze, and your opponent will be sent flying to the other side of the screen.

Q’s Total Destruction Glitches

Q’s Total Destruction Super Art has unique properties due to programming issues. Due to how it quickly drains a target’s health bar instead of immediately KOing them, it’s possible to beat Q during his post-attack animation frames by using a slow projectile like the Aegis Reflector. If characters trade hits during the explosion, the game won’t always register that the explosion actually occurred, giving you a chance to trigger a second one.

Sean’s Backward Basketball

Sean’s basketball taunt is a homing projectile; it’s programmed to land at the opponent’s location. However, this becomes problematic when it’s targeted at characters who can move behind Sean quickly, such as when using Yang’s Kaihou. If timed correctly, the game will register the opponent’s location incorrectly and send the basketball backward from Sean’s sprite, thus ignoring the normal physics of the attack.
