Super Mario 64 Maker Lets You Create Your Own Levels

Super Mario 64 Maker Lets You Create Your Own Levels

N64 fans, it’s time to dig out your old consoles once again! Here’s yet another reason to be gaming on the N64 21 years after its initial release. Someone has created a Super Mario 64 Maker inspired by Super Mario Maker.

The biggest thing about this rom is the fact that you can create levels using only your controller. There is a video on YouTube from Kaze Emanuar that illustrates a little bit about the Super Mario 64 Maker works, but mostly, the creator leaves it up to you to use the program how you will. Within the description of the video, Kaze says that the easiest way to learn how to use Super Mario 64 Maker is to get the feel for the controls naturally. However, there is a list of the specific controls if you need it.

As we all well know, N64 does not have any online services, so Kaze has set up a system to allow users to share their levels among each other. There’s a Discord community you can join to talk with others also using Super Mario 64 Maker . Then there is a Google form you can use to submit your levels after you upload them online somewhere. (Choose “save state” from within project 64 to get the upload file.) Then, there is another Google document you can view that shows all the currently submitted levels to play.

All of the above information is in the description of the Super Mario 64 Maker video on YouTube, so definitely give it a look. I’d recommend watching it on mute though, as the music gets incredibly repetitive very fast.
