Nintendo’s release of Super Mario Maker 2 was a hit with positive reviews from critics and praise for its user interface, music, gameplay, and editing tools available. Developed and published by Nintendo EPD and Nintendo the game was created as a side-scrolling platform game in 2019. Like its predecessor Super Mario Maker 2‘s gameplay remains largely the same in which players will create custom courses using resources from various games across the franchise. New features of this title, however, include single player story mode and new level assets.

Super Mario Maker 2 Premise

Like the previous titles in the series players will have the ability to create their own courses and publish them online for other players to try out. Although some of the mechanics remain the same there have been added features for a fresh feel in this title. Inducing, new assets and tools for players to use in building courses based on Super Mario 3D World. There are also new vertical courses allowing the player to raise the vertical height limit. Something notable about this title is the World Maker Mode giving players a chance to create their own overworld maps called a Super World. Other than new features of Super Mario Maker 2 the goal of the game is to help Princess Peach rebuild her castle which was accidentally reset by Undodog.

Some characters within this title have a familiar feel but some are new to the title to enhance the playability of the storyline and gameplay mechanics. Below is a list of the main characters in Super Mario Maker 2:

  • Mario: Main character and protagonist of the long-running and widely successful Mario franchise
  • Luigi: Secondary protagonist to the series and Marios younger brother
  • Coursebot: Robot tool that helps player manage courses in the game.
  • Mr.Eraser: Ally in the game allowing players to erase part of their course.
  • Nina: Human character featured in Super Mario Maker 2.
  • Patrick: A Brick Block and a symbol for course blocks in the game.
  • Princess Peach: Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Toad: Princess Peach’s assistant.
  • Toadette: A supporting playable character in the Super Mario game series.
  • Undodog: A helpful character to Mario in the game and representative of the square icon on the games menu.
  • Worldbot: Worldbot is used to show the player’s saved Super Worlds.

Super Mario Maker 2 Mario Builder costume

Successfully complete Story mode and all jobs to unlock a final project that requires you to rebuild a statue in the empty lot of the castle for 1,000 gold coins. Complete the final project to unlock the Mario Builder costume.

Bonus power-ups in Course Maker mode

Successfully complete the indicated task in Story mode to unlock the corresponding power-up item in Course Maker mode:

Builder Hammer (3D World style only): Successfully complete the “Meowser Showdown!” job, and view the credits.

Super Ball Flower (SMB1 style only): Successfully complete the “Spiny Shell Smashers” job from the Purple Toad, then hit the middle “?” block in the row of three on the map.

Easy coins

Replay the indicated stages to earn lots of coins quickly and easily:

Job 55: This is an easy level where you ride a car. You get 100+ coins per run. Make sure to grab the 50 coins in this level. If you collect all coins, you will get 117 coins.

Job 56: This is a coin hunting level that requires 80 coins to complete, but you can collect 100-150 coins per run.

Job 70: This is one of the quickest levels to grind. You can earn 80 coins in approximately 20 to 30 seconds per run.

Job 76: This level has a standard completion challenge of 50 coins. You can earn approximately 50-80 coins per run.

Job 90: This is a very short level that only takes about 30 seconds to complete. You can earn approximately 40-55 coins per run.

How do players unlock Mario World Championships?

Players will need to complete the 10 Mario Challenge mode’s until they have unlocked all the sample courses. Once unlocked, they can play the four Nintendo Championship levels. Completing all four levels will unlock the Weird Mushroom item which is usable in Course Maker.

How many levels are there in Super Mario Maker?

The number of levels within the game is not fixed. It depends on how many levels players design and share. The game in Story Mode, however, has 90 levels offered to play as Toad.
