Switch and Legend of Zelda Break Nintendo Sale Records

Switch and Legend of Zelda Break Nintendo Sale Records

In an interview with Nick Wingfield of the New York Times, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed some startling information about the first couple days of the Nintendo Switch launch. As it turns out, it’s starting out by hitting the ground running. First of all, the Nintendo Switch itself, in terms of first two-day sales, are the highest in the American market for any Nintendo system, including the Wii. (So this covers March 3-4, 2017.) Sure, this is a very specific time period, but think about it in terms of opening weekend for a new movie and it becomes more impressive.

The next bit of sales information is about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . It is officially the best-selling stand-alone launch title in Nintendo history. The new second place title is Super Mario 64. This figure doesn’t apply to games like Wii Sports or Nintendo Land , where everyone automatically got the game as a pack-in.

These early reports don’t indicate the Nintendo Switch is going to blow the Wii out of the water or anything, but it’s a good start, even a great start. The already pretty populated line up of games for the platform’s first year are a good sign as well. Let’s see what happens with this system!
