The Stanley Parable Gets a Demo, Sort Of

The Stanley Parable, a brand new first person… something game, has just gotten a demo… kind of. To be honest, it’s better described as a non-demo. The “demo” doesn’t actually really reveal any of the game’s locations or levels or gameplay or anything like that. It’s a completely standalone chapter with a completely standalone conclusion. The demo certainly expresses some of the themes that the Stanley Parable will express, specifically loneliness and a quirky sense of humor, but contains no actual segments from the game. Not only that, but certain reviewers and Internet personalities are actually receiving their own, customized versions of the demo… which are even less of a demo. The Stanley Parable is an old Half-Life mod that centered around a man, whose purpose was to monitor data on a computer screen at his job. When one day his screen goes blank, he gets up to find a way to fix it, only to find that no one else is in his building. What ensues is a hilarious explorative romp through a surreal world, complete with a British narrator that struggles to keep up with your actions. This new demo is for an HD remake of the game, which will launch on October 17 th .
