The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

Game developers got together this week to talk about the state of the industry and network. Other than the events at DICE, there wasn’t a whole lot to get excited about.

Perhaps the most interesting bit of news is that Microsoft will finally bring LIVE support to mobile phones. It was announced this week that Windows Phone 7 Series will bring with it support for the online community to mobile phones utilizing the new operating system. Initially, LIVE for Windows Phones will support Achievements and Gamerscore, Xbox LIVE leaderboards, Avatars, spotlight feeds (news/promotions/strategies), your friends list, and multiplayer gaming (turn-based, asynchronous).

While that is intriguing, I personally got most excited by 2K Games’ announcement that Sid Meier’s Civilization V is not only in development but will be installed on my computer’s hard drive this fall! The classic, turn-based strategy game is getting a facelift with a completely new engine built specifically for Civ V. It’s also receiving hexagonal terrain pieces (for greater depth of movement strategy) as well as a bunch of new modding tools and multiplayer options.

Additionally, Capcom has gone ahead and done the impossible: they’ve created a mobile Street Fighter title that’s actually good. At least that’s what they claim. Street Fighter IV is coming to the Apple App Store complete with multiplayer support and a virtual D-pad and face buttons that the developers claim are extremely accurate. We’ll have to see how it turns out when it releases this March.

Lastly, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves took home game of the year honors at the AIAS Awards at DICE 2010. Naughty Dog’s opus garnered a total of nine awards in all. Batman: Arkham Asylum and Scribblenauts did well for themselves too, picking up three awards apiece. For a complete list of the winners in every category, click HERE .

Thanks so much everyone and we will see you next week!
