This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Star Wars

This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Star Wars

JJ Abrams has just revealed some new details about the villains of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens . If you thought that the Sith were coming back, you would be very wrong. Rather, the villians this time around are the antagonist Kylo Ren, and his organization called the First Order.

Who are the First Order? Who is Kylo Ren? This is what Abrams had to say about it.

“Kylo Ren is not a Sith.” He added, “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”

Snoke is a character played by Andy Serkis known for his work on The Lord of the Rings as Gollum. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens , Snoke will once again be a CG character mapped to Serkis’s body movements, and with his voice.

Abrams also revealed more about who the First Order is.

“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’”

Abrams continued, “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

You heard him. Space Nazis. Granted, the Empire themselves were loosely based around the Nazis, but it looks like The Force Awakens will dive deeper into their internal politics. The Force Awakens will not be utilizing anything from the extended universe, so forget everything about the Sith and the Dark Side that you may know.

It’s also worth noting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be in IMAX screens far longer than any other movie. It will be taking over the massive screens for an entire month. Very few other movies have done that, with The Hobbit trilogy being one of the only ones.

So what do you think? What will we learn about The Dark Side this time around? Will you watch the film in IMAX? Let us know in the comments.
