Top 6 Epic Easter Eggs in Video Games

Top 6 Epic Easter Eggs in Video Games

Injustice 2 has been a big hit since it’s debut last week and has captured the attention of fighting fans everywhere. The game has also seen a few nods to what developer NetherRealm Studios might have in store for our new favorite fighting game. A few Easter gggs have already been unearthed by gamers but perhaps the most intriguing of them all is the subtle mention of “that other lightning guy” by Joker when he’s fighting Black Adam. He’s, of course, referring to none other than Raiden, the most epic character found in Mortal Kombat. This totally awesome reference got us thinking about the best ones we’ve seen in games. Let’s take a look.

DOOM 2: John Romero’s Mug

DOOM 2: John Romero’s Mug

Easily one of the best Easter eggs ever, shooting co-creator John Romero in the face was not only hilariously brilliant, but deviously satisfying in DOOM 2 . Players were granted the ability to take down Romero’s head on a stick, which coincidentally was found within the final boss’s head, to indeed win the game.  Done as a gag by his fellow co-creators, Romero’s face is the icing on the cake in a great installment of a classic game.

Resident Evil: “You were almost a Jill sandwich”

Resident Evil: “You were almost a Jill sandwich”

No one will ever forget those cheesy words spewed out by Barry Burton as he rescues Jill Valentine from a falling ceiling in the original Resident Evil . Yes, it’s totally her fault for grabbing the shotgun in the other room, thus setting off the chain of ceiling descending events and forever changing video culture. Even better, the original Dead Rising featured a sandwich shop called Jill’s Sandwiches as a nod to the line that spawned a generation of memes, jokes, and downright hilariousness.

Hitman: The Coin

Hitman: The Coin

Everyone knows the Hitman series is peppered with Easter eggs and awesome hidden things. Hitman: Blood Money was no exception, especially in the mission “Til death do us part.” Agent 47 deviates from the mission to a building behind the wedding scene. Shooting a submerged coin covered in mud released a drove of dudes in boxers, clapping like 47 was some kind of celebrity.

NBA Jam Tournament Edition

Another epic retro game makes it’s way to our list with NBA Jam Tournament Edition . Although the game came packed with all the super star NBA players of the 90’s, players were granted access to a roster full of special characters when button combination codes were properly entered. Everyone from The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mortal Kombat ‘s Sub-Zero, and even everyone’s favorite perv, Bill Clinton, were featured in the game.

GTA IV – The Heart

GTA IV – The Heart

The Grand Theft Auto series has been long known for it’s epic Easter eggs and gags it places throughout the game. Perhaps the most intriguing one comes from the Statue of Happiness at the peak of the GTA IV map. If you make your way up to it and through the main doors, you’ll walk right into a giant beating heart. Yep, that’s the heart of the city right there.

Halo: Combat Evolved: Let’s Embrace

Halo: Combat Evolved: Let’s Embrace

One of the more hilarious Easter eggs comes directly from one of CheatCC’s favorite franchises, Halo . If you managed to make your way through the original Halo on Legendary mode, you were greeted with a special treat at the very end. A cutscene appears with Sergeant Johnson and a Covenant Elite jockeying for control of an assault rifle. Once the original Halo ring begins to self-destruct, the Sergeant blurts out, “This is it, baby. Hold me.” Then he and the Elite embrace as the ring blows up in the background.
