Top 7 Dead Video Games (That Should Rise Again)

Top 7 Dead Video Games (That Should Rise Again)

Not every IP gets a long, guaranteed life filled with fame, fortune, and spin-offs. There are far more Gex-es out there than Marios. But, that doesn’t mean the series that died off are bad or less deserving. Some of them are both fan favorites and critically acclaimed. They just, well, didn’t make enough money or ended up lost to time.

But, given we’re now in the area of reboots, remasters and spiritual successors, now seems like the perfect time to talk about series that should be brought back.

F-Zero

F-Zero

F-Zero has been done dirty. This series was one of the better racing games out there, constantly prioritizing speed. Except, well, we haven’t seen anything since F-Zero Climax on the Game Boy Advance in 2004. That entry didn’t even make it outside of Japan! Bring Captain Falcon back as more than just a Super Smash Bros. competitor! And tracks back in an original game, not just Mario Kart 8. People deserve to hit the track again.

Bully

Bully

Bully is a game that feels like it should have inspired a sequel. Rockstar Games went as wholesome as it could for this simulator that put a young man named Jimmy at Bullworth academy, a school filled with teachers and students who are… well… bullies. You attempt to rise to the top by becoming the school kingpin. Attending classes gives you benefits, you can choose to help the people who are being harassed, and it offered the kind of open world adventures people who might not like Grand Theft Auto could enjoy.

Castlevania

Castlevania

Castlevania may feel like less of a priority, now that Koji Igarashi has released both Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Ritual of the Night . But, a new Belmont adventure would be pretty great. Forget about Lords of Shadow . Make it a 2D or 2.5D affair that is incredibly elaborate. Give us an additional character or two, perhaps even Alucard. People picking up the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and Castlevania Requiem has shown the demand is there. Give us a new adventure, please.

Dead Space

Dead Space

The idea of space and the unknown is horrifying. We have no idea what is out there or how we would react to that sort of lifestyle. It is unknown if other lifeforms are out there. Dead Space preyed on that fear. It used psychological horror and real monsters to scare people silly. In its heyday, it was a big success. It had a prequel and a sequel. There were spin-offs. But then, EA did what EA does and killed Visceral Games and the series. But I mean, now is the perfect time to bring it all back.

Half-Life

Half-Life

A list about potential series revivals and Half-Life isn’t on the top of the list? But what about Half-Life 3 ?

Okay. Hear me out. At this point, jumping right into Half-Life 3 might not even be an option anymore. The first two games are great, but were generations ago. People might not have the same exposure to them. Instead, this is a series primed for a remaster. Make the first two games look incredible. Release them. Have an epilogue that confirms the third one is finally on the way, and we’re golden.

Advance Wars

Advance Wars

The world is ready for another Advance Wars game. Or, I mean, just a Wars game in general. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin flopped. It took us out of Wars World, with its bright and colorful aesthetic and otherworldly elements. It had great tactics, but may have been a bit too different from what people expect. So, head back to Cosmo Land. Have Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet and Green Earth face off against a new threat. Throw in a level editor and online multiplayer.

Chrono

Chrono

The fact that there are only two games in Square Enix’s Chrono series is a tragedy. Both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are each amazing in their own ways. There was plenty of lore and mechanics there to make a third installment a thing. So, well, how about fresh ports of the games remastered for the Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Then, a whole new game? There are Chrono Orchestra Performance concerts being held in Japan in 2019. Those would be a good place to announce a project.
