Today, Ubisoft confirmed what has been rumored for some time. The Assassin’s Creed series is taking a little break to give its creators time to innovate and implement desired improvements in the series formula. According to the message from the team, “we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity , we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.”
This is great news for Assassin’s Creed fans. Although Syndicate was generally praised and well-liked, the series needs to take some time to allow its development teams to make larger changes and ensure that the games are more technically solid before release. The spectre of the troubled Assassin’s Creed Unity still hangs over Ubisoft, as does general discontent with the way the modern-day storyline has been handled in the last few releases.
