Ubisoft Reclaims Watch Dogs Trademark

Ubisoft Reclaims Watch Dogs Trademark

More developments have arisen in in the ongoing saga of cyberpranksters VS Ubisoft. For those of you who haven’t been keeping track of the story, someone submitted a fake request to abandon the Watch_Dogs trademark on behalf of Ubisoft. This caused a panic in the gaming world, as we all assumed that Watch_Dogs was going to be canceled. Luckily, the US Patent and Trademark Office has just granted Ubisoft their Watch_Dogs trademark back. Usually it would take quite a bit more time for this to happen, but the USPTO has come to the conclusion that the original application was fraudulent, so Ubisoft gets it back lickety split. Luckily no one else claimed ownership in the meantime.

“Here, the circumstances are extraordinary,” the reinstatement petition reads. “An unknown party who lacked authority executed the purported abandonment of the application. Although the request appears to have been sent by petitioner, petitioner declared that it did not submit the request and has every reason to believe that this filing was fraudulent. The Director finds the application should not have been abandoned.”
