Vampire Survivors Cheats & Secrets

Indie developer poncle’s Vampire Survivors is the 2022 breakout hit and Game of the Year nominee responsible for creating the “bullet heaven” or “Survivor-like” subgenre of action roguelikes. Initially released for free on itch.io ahead of its Early Access release, Vampire Survivors would garner plenty of hype ahead of its 1.0, leading to it achieving considerable success after its full launch on October 20, 2022. Although initially only available on PC and Mac computers, Vampire Survivors would quickly make its way to mobile devices and consoles.

In addition to Vampire Survivors‘ considerable commercial success (with an estimated 8.2 million units sold across all platforms), the game has also been welcomed with praise from both critics and players alike. The title currently sits at an impressive 95% positive review aggregate score on Metacritic and holds a 98% “Overwhelmingly Positive” user review score on Steam across more than 230,000 reviews.

Vampire Survivors Premise

As one of several dozen “Survivors”, Vampire Survivors sees players take up arms against the nefarious Bisconte Draculó and his minions. Each Survivor has unique starting weapons and abilities that impact how they play in each level — a never-ending, procedurally generated 2D plane in which the player is continually attacked by hordes of monsters. Defeating monsters drops experience gems that the player can collect, leveling up and improving their offensive capabilities. The ultimate goal of each level is to survive against the endless hordes for 30 minutes before Death shows up and exterminates the player. As an action roguelike, Vampire Survivors has near-limitless gameplay and hundreds of collectibles and upgrades to obtain that transform subsequent runs.

Vampire Survivors Main Characters

You might be surprised to learn that there is a plot to Vampire Survivors, with the game taking place in the year 2021 in the Italian countryside. When the evil Bisconte Draculó begins summoning hordes of monsters, several heroes take up arms to hunt him and his fiends down, ultimately coming face to face with the game’s main adversary, “The Directer”. Main characters in Vampire Survivors include:

Vampire Survivors Cheats & Secrets

There are hundreds of cheats in Vampire Survivors that players can use to unlock characters, equipment, stages, and more. To enter any of these cheats, players must first unlock the Secret menu, which requires obtaining a specific in-game item to unlock permanently. Players can also temporarily unlock the Secret menu using a trick on the Collection screen.

Vampire Survivors Secrets

How to Unlock the Secret Menu

Before players can enter Spells (Vampire Survivors‘ version of cheats), they will first need to unlock the Secret menu. There are two ways that players can do this — one permanent, and one temporary.

To temporarily unlock the Secret menu, players need to access the Collections screen from the Main Menu. Scroll down until you find the pink squares, and navigate to the 9th pink square. Click the square 7 times. You will know you’re successful when you see a message pop up stating “You are now a magician“. Return to the Main Menu to access the Secret menu and begin inputting cheats/Spells. Note that you must do this every time you launch the game to enter cheats if you don’t permanently unlock the Secret menu.

To permanently unlock the Secret menu, players must obtain the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane. This item will drop after defeating the Sketamari in The Bone Zone map. Players can find this creature by navigating to the “?” icon on the map. Note that to unlock The Bone Zone, players must unlock Hyper Mode for 3 regular stages.

Vampire Survivors Cheats (Spells)

To enter cheats in Vampire Survivors, players must first unlock the Secret menu (except for a select few cheats that players can enter from the main menu). Once the Secret menu is unlocked, players must use either a real keyboard or the in-game keyboard to quickly enter each cheat command for it to activate. Note that cheats are not case-sensitive and that the main menu cheats are only confirmed to work on PC.

Vampire Survivors Cheat FAQs

Do Vampire Survivors’ cheats work on consoles and mobile?

Though the cheat system for Vampire Survivors was originally implemented with PC functionality in mind (specifically, the use of a keyboard), both the mobile and console versions of Vampire Survivors feature an ad hoc pop-up keyboard within the Secret menu specifically for entering Spells (Vampire Survivors‘ name for cheat commands). Do note that these commands can be tricky to enter correctly on console or mobile depending on your skills with digital keyboards, as they require fast inputs to activate successfully.

Who is the strongest character in Vampire Survivors?

From a purely statistical standpoint, the strongest character in Vampire Survivors is Queen Sigma. In addition to her incredibly large HP pool (a whopping 333 health points) she earns +1% Might and +1% Growth with each level-up, which leads to some major gains in her attack power as well as exponentially improving the rate at which she gains levels. Aside from all these bonuses, her weapon (the Victory Sword) is one of the strongest character weapons in the game, and it only becomes more powerful with each level-up and the bonuses to her Might stat.

Where is the Secret menu in Vampire Survivors?

The Secret menu in Vampire Survivors is where players can enter cheats or “Spells”, and it only becomes accessible from the main menu in one of two ways. The traditional way to unlock the Secret menu is to acquire the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane, which is an item players can acquire in the Bone Zone map after defeating the Sketamari. The Sketamari’s location is marked with a “?” on the map, making it easy for players to seek the enemy out and destroy it to earn the Forbidden Scrolls, provided they’ve leveled up enough to survive the encounter.

The other way to unlock the Secret menu is to navigate to the Collection screen, find the 9th Relic icon (pink background, Yellow Sign), and click on it 7 times. You will see a message pop up to let you know the Secret menu is now active. Return to the main menu and you’ll see that the Secret menu is now available underneath the “Unlocks” option.

Can Death be beaten in Vampire Survivors?

A typical run of Vampire Survivors has a cap of 30 minutes, at which point Death will show up and kill the player. However, there is a way to defeat Death, provided players have unlocked enough upgrades to survive the necessary steps. There are several strategies players can use, but ultimately it’s necessary to survive for 31 minutes in the Inlaid Library stage to unlock the Disco of Gold Arcana, which allows you to finally defeat Death and unlock the Red Death character. We recommend progressing far enough to unlock the Slash or Awake Arcane, which requires reaching Level 99 with Lama or Krochi, respectively.
