Vita Designed For Compatibility, Security

None

In the wake of its reveal at their press conference this Monday, Sony has offered some details on the more pragmatic aspects of the Vita’s hardware and software plans.

First off, PSP games, minis and PSone classics will all be playable on the Vita. If you’ve already purchased them through the PlayStation Store, they will transfer over without issue. Where will you store these titles? While the Vita doesn’t have any internal memory, it does have a storage media slot that will allow users to find the right storage capacity for their needs and/or budget.

And what about those users who didn’t purchase their games through the PlayStation Store, but instead ran them off of UMDs? As with the PSP Go, Sony isn’t sure yet, saying that they, “will consider every possibility for support on bought UMD games, but [they] have nothing to comment at this point in time.”

Lastly, on the somewhat more ambivalent side of the coin, the PS Vita will lack both a video output feature and the ability to remove the handheld’s battery. The embedded battery serves the dual function of protecting the rear touch pad (presumably from both damage and loss) and attempting to curtail piracy on this newest console.
