Warner Bros. Hiring People for Extremely British RPG

Warner Bros. Hiring People for Extremely British RPG

A keen-eyed gamer or two found an intriguing job opportunity listed on the Warner Bros. careers website. Warner Bros. is looking for a Senior Game Writer for a yet-unannounced project, ostensibly a AAA RPG. The fun part is, apparently the project is very, very British. The listing seeks a writer for the Avalanche Story department. Warner Bros. is looking for a “talented storyteller with a deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation.”

For those not keeping track at home, Avalanche is a developer formerly tied to Disney. Warner Bros. acquired it in 2016 after Disney dumped all of its internal video game development. Of course, the first announced project from Avalanche is the Cars 3 tie-in game, now outsourced by the company that dumped them into free agency in the first place.

The job’s responsibilities include “provide British authenticity to the tone of the project” and “research and play similar games to keep current on gaming trends.” Whatever this writer will be working on definitely sounds like a AAA-level game.

Looking at the history of Avalanche, there’s a long history of licensed affairs. Could this be more of that, something based on a popular British brand, perhaps a Doctor Who or something similar? Or, could this be an original IP, meant to turn a less-renowned developer into a new AAA resource?
