Weeping Doll Launches for Playstation VR

Weeping Doll Launches for Playstation VR

While atmospheric “experiences” make up a good chunk of the existing Playstation VR catalogue, some developers are committed to exploring the interactive side of the medium. One such studio is TianShe Media, an independent Chinese developer, which has partnered with Oasis Games to bring their horror mystery title Weeping Doll to Western territories. Now available on the Playstation Store, Weeping Doll is a “spooky psychological adventure” that asks players to solve environmental puzzles while being stalked by a malevolent doll.

This first-person adventure game allows the player to project an avatar in virtual space, which the development team implemented as a measure to reduce VR-related discomfort. As someone who experienced immediate nausea with Playstation VR, I’m curious to see how well this approach works in practice, although VR horror still sounds like something I am content to never experience. I take solace in knowing that Weeping Doll is rated T for Teen by the ESRB, meaning that its scares are likely to be more psychological than visceral. Wait, can I really take solace in that?

Weeping Doll is available for immediate download in North America for $9.99 USD.
