White House Claims Trump Has a Meeting with Games Execs

During a White House press briefing, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told members of the press that president Trump will be meeting with executives in the video games industry sometime next week. This announcement came in the context of the recent mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. While this announcement reignited the fires of the violence in video games discussion, many top figures in the games industry have noted zero contact from the White House in regards to a meeting.

In speaking to the president’s inability to get lawmakers to move gun control legislation, Sanders said that the process is ongoing, that the president has met with “a number of stakeholders,” and that he will be meeting with members of the video game industry for possible action in that arena. Trump has previously pointed to video games and other media such as movies and the Internet as a factor in these outbreaks of violence.

After being contacted, the ESA, or Entertainment Software Association, confirmed that there has been no contact or invitation from anyone at the White House for such a meeting. The ESA is an organizational body that often represents game publishers in arenas like politics, with companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, EA, and Activision all being members.
