Xbox Live Gets Pricier

Xbox Live Gets Pricier

None

Just in time for the holidays and the release of Kinect, Microsoft has announced that they will be hiking the price of their Xbox Live subscriptions in a variety of regions on November 1. The area that will be feeling most of the effects of this change will be the US, with one month memberships going from $7.99 to $9.99, three months moving from $19.99 to $24.99, and a full year jumping from $49.99 to $59.99.

Rounding out the rest of the increases, as outlined on Larry Hryb’s Major Nelson blog, are the UK’s one month subscriptions (4.99 GBP to 5.99 GBP), Canada’s one month subscriptions (8.99 CAD to 9.99 CAD), and Mexico’s twelve month subscriptions (499 Pesos to 599 Pesos). A post on the blog states “Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.” The blog also suggests “However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.”
