Crash Boom Bang Review / Preview for the Nintendo DS (NDS)

If you’re a fan of the ‘coot, you’ll definitely want to crash this party.

Crash Boom Bang is a party game that features all of your favorite Crash Bandicoot characters as game pieces. It’s loaded with mini-games and all kinds of surprises. You can bet that this is anything but a “bored” game.

Crash Boom Bang is played like a virtual, 3D board game. Players roll the virtual dice and move their game-piece character to the corresponding square which may reveal a mini-game, points or any number of zany surprises. An exclusive new feature called the DS Motion Panel Communicator gives this game incredible interactivity by allowing you to communicate with other players, helping or hindering them during their turn. You can help other players along by giving them the right solution to puzzles or providing them with power-ups to accomplish a specific task. Or you can gang up on them and really mess with their progress.

Players collect points from landing on specific spots. These points can then be used for a variety of purposes such as purchasing accessories such as wacky outfits and other items which you can add to your inventory to use when you need them. Or you can use them to bet on the progress of other players. If you win, you’ll accumulate more points. To keep the players from getting bored, games of cards and other mini-games can be played while waiting for the other players to take their turns. Imagine not having to display any discipline such as patience. With Crash, Boom Bang it always feels like it’s your turn.

Playable characters include Crash, Coco, Crunch and Neo Cortex. Since all players can’t be the same character, some cooperation will have to be shown when deciding how you will choose your character. After that civilized exercise, it’s every man for himself as you make and break alliances to ensure that only you emerge victorious.

There are more than 40 action-packed mini-games with more than 80 collectible items including the skateboard which will guarantee that you can move at least six spaces. Knowing when to use these items calls for some strategy.
