Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (X360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS)
April 1, 2008 / Dev: LucasArts / Pub: LucasArts
With the new trilogy's painful experience still engrained in the minds of many disappointed Star Wars fans, it is now up to video games to rekindle the love and respect that has been lost for this popular space opera. Since everyone is still quiet about even the possibility of Knights of the Old Republic 3, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be the title that everyone is looking to for their Star Wars fix. Fortunately, in both story and gameplay, this looks like it could be one of the best Star Wars games yet. You will get to fill in the storyline gap between Episode III and IV as you attempt to hunt down and eradicate the remaining Jedi as Darth Vader's secret apprentice.
The Force Unleashed will also make use of Euphoria technology and a Digital Molecular Materials system to make environments, items, and enemies react extremely realistically. Anybody looking to love the force again should definitely keep an eye on this game. - Adam Brown, Freelance Writer
GTA IV (X360, PS3)
April 29, 2008 / Dev: Rockstar North / Pub: Rockstar
What is there not to be excited about? After playing the PlayStation hits into the ground and then reviving them occasionally, I can say that I am thoroughly pleased that GTA is finally moving past the Roman numeral three and subtitles and graduating to four. A few months back when the first teaser trailer debuted, I was a bit skeptical, but as those few minutes of the teaser rolled on I found my anticipation building and eager for the game to hit the shelves on October 16. As we all know, that date came and went, and the new release date of April 29, 2008 has just been announced. With the reveal of tidbits of story and the additional two trailers hitting, making us all want more violent carnage than we should, GTAIV will have us satiated with everything we have come to expect and more in 08. - Matthew Walker, Project Coordinator
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
March 9, 2008 / Dev: Game Arts / Pub: Nintendo
What is it about the Smash series that brings out such excitement in the minds of gamers everywhere? The zany, off-the-wall battle system? The chance to see Mario and Link battle it out against third party compatriots Sonic and Snake? Either way, Nintendo aims to please with the third installment in the series: Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Featuring a longer single player adventure, plenty of new character appearances, and a soundtrack featuring an abundance of hits from past Nintendo titles, Brawl is the ultimate fan service for Nintendo fans. However, at first there was a lot of suspicion that the game would feature only the Wii-mote as the primary control scheme. Luckily, you veterans of the series can rest easy because it plans on utilizing both the Wii Classic controller and the GameCube controller. With all these new features, as well as online play, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is definitely one of the most anticipated games of 2008. Look for it in stores on March 9. - Branden Barrett, Freelance Writer
