We all know someone who defines themselves according to what they think is cool in regards to pop culture. Working with teens as a music teacher over the last 25 years, I've been subjected to many younger people (and some adults) who adopt the speech patterns and inflections yanked from some pop culture icon in an attempt to be perceived as hip. Then they start dressing the part and it becomes all the more embarrassing, and you know they won't realize how ridiculous they look and sound until they at least hit 30 years of age. We all do it. I used to dress in Miami Vice-style outfits, you know, the mint-green suits that were popular for a while in the mid 80's. when the first Toyota Time-Machines go on the market, I'm going to buy one, return to the scene of my shame and get my self-respect back.
This strip is just poking fun at all of those "playa's" who adopted the ghetto speak of GTA: San Andreas even though their parents wouldn't let them stay up past 10 pm and who had recently given all of their Batman underoos to their younger brother. I really don't have to explain much else. The Xbox says it for me.
