We've known about the Tomb Raider Collector’s edition for a while now, but Square Enix has finally released details of the package, and promises that it's "designed to bring fans closer to Lara Croft’s journey within the game."
Here's a rundown of what's included:
Now, I'm fine with collector's packs. In fact, I'm looking forward to the arrival of my Black Ops 2: Hardened Edition. But there's something that feels particularly greedy about them when Laura Croft is on the cover.
After all, it's been a long time since Croft has starred in genuinely terrific game, so it seems pretty obvious that Square Enix is attempting to cash in on a franchise that our parents used to enjoy without putting in any actual work.
Now, don't get me wrong, I've heard that the upcoming Tomb Raider game is extremely enjoyable, but players can't possibly be ordering this collector's edition based on that knowledge. They're going to buy it because they loved playing the original on their SEGA Saturn in 1996, and, I don't know, it just seems so greedy.
But can we really expect a publisher to forgo a handful of cash simply because it makes them look like greedy bloodsuckers? I guess not.
Either way, if you feel like giving Square Enix $99.99 of your hard-earned money, the Tomb Raider Collector’s Edition will be available in limited quantities at select retailers around the country. But you can also just pre-order the standard edition and pick it up when it hit's shelves on March 5, 2013.
