CCC: Rob, how did you contribute in terms of sound design?
HMS: I'm in charge of all the sound effects, dialogue, and the music. I worked closely with all the VO actors and the composer, and I have a team of sound designers that implement all that stuff as well as create the sound effects and implement them into the game.
CCC: Are there any voice actors aside from Peter Cullen [Optimus Prime] from previous Transformers games returning in War for Cybertron?
HMS: The only ones that have been announced are Johnny Yong Bosch [who plays Bumblebee in Transformers 3] and Nolan North [as Sideswipe].
CCC: What were your inspirations for the game in terms of design and presentation?
HMS: The [Transformers] G1 series was a huge part of the influence - looking at what roped everybody at High Moon in as Transformers fans when we were kids, because we're all fans from that era. Looking at the style of the characters, and not just the way they look but the way they act and what their personalities are; the interplay you get between them with the kind of story you get. You know, Starscream's always stabbing Megatron in the back, [for example] and where does that come from? That was always in the earlier series, so we said, "let's tell the story of how that came to be."
CCC: Does the game have a completely original story, or is it based on past canonical events in the series?
HMS: It's a completely original story that we made up at High Moon. We worked closely with Hasbro and there's two separate campaigns - Autobots and Decepticons. Each one stands alone as a story unto itself, but they also form an entire story together. If you want to go chronologically, you play the Decepticon campaign first; it's a prequel to the Autobot campaign.
CCC: How does War for Cybertron differentiate itself from other Transformers games that have come in the past?
HMS: I think the pace. It's a really fast-paced game, and you're transforming a lot. The abilities will really come into play [too], they're super fun to use. And having the art style, sound, and story all be influenced so much from the G1 Transformers universe is much different from taking influence from the movies. And I think that's really what will separate it.
CCC: Will the game have any cheats or tricks that CCC readers can look forward to using?
HMS: There may be some unlockables, but I don't know that there are any cheat codes…if there are, we're certainly not announcing them yet [laughs].
