Transformers: War for Cybertron Interview

Transformers: War for Cybertron Interview

CCC: How long will the game be?

HMS: Depends how you play it. You can play each level either single-player as one of three characters or in three-player co-op. But, together for both campaigns it will probably take the average person eight to 10 hours.

CCC: When playing single-player, can you choose which Transformer you want to use for the whole campaign?

HMS: It goes level per level - you get three characters per level that you can choose. And some of those will cross from one level to the next - Megatron's in a couple levels and Optimus is in a couple of levels. But, you choose from those three at the beginning of the level, and those are the same three you'll play as if you're doing three-player co-op.

CCC: How many Transformers are in the game?

HMS: I think if you include all the enemies and everybody it's in the mid-twenties.

CCC: Aside from the differences in weapon loadouts and abilities, are there any differences between the Autobots and the Decepticons?

HMS: In the single-player, the abilities that each character has are set to them, so from that standpoint some of the Decepticons will have different abilities than the Autobots, so that makes them different. But in multiplayer, they're basically exactly the same. Everything's balanced. When you create your own character, if you go into create your own Scout [for instance] you simultaneously create an Autobot and a Decepticon version. You can make your loadout exactly the same for both, but can choose your Autobot chassis with these colors and your Decepticon chassis with these colors.

CCC: There are a lot of huge bosses seen in the game's trailer. What was behind the decision to make them so massive, and are all the boss fights like that?

HMS: Yeah, the bosses are huge. Omega Supreme is really big, Trypticon is even bigger [laughs]. He's massive. [It's] just to give a sense of scale, because the Transformers themselves are huge. But when you're on Cybertron, they're on their homeworld and they don't necessarily feel huge. They feel like they're in an environment that they're supposed to be in. So, let's bring something huge to that table [laughs]. It's just fun as hell to see those guys towering above you.

CCC: It's a little like Lost Planet.

HMS: Yeah, it feels hopeless, and then of course you win! It's great [laughs]. And they were huge characters in the lore. Omega Supreme was always big, so let's unleash Omega Supreme. Same with Trypticon. They were the uber guys there.
