With the casual gaming market growing more and more dependent on iOS and Android devices, many are starting to think there's not much of a need for a dedicated handheld gaming device anymore. This just isn't true, claims Sony.

The PlayStation Vita is coming, merging the worlds of handheld gaming and hardcore gaming. Not only do the front touchscreen and rear touch panel offer several interesting gimmicks for casual titles, the twin analog sticks and HD display bring some features that should please even the hardest of the hardcore gamers out there.

On top of the system specs, the launch lineup is one we're drooling over a little bit. With Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, and WipEout 2048 leading the pack, we're seeing some heavy hitters emerging already. And this isn't even mentioning the less-established gems like Escape Plan and Gravity Rush.

I think it goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway: We're pretty excited about the Vita.
