The Future of The Persona Series

The Future of The Persona Series

This gameplay has been such a hit that it has started to make its way into other Megaten games. The DS incarnation of the Megaten series, Devil Summoner, also included a time passing system that limited the amount of actions you can do. Persona 5, whatever it may be, will very obviously include this same gameplay system. Where Persona 5 will be set is uncertain and what characters you will play are still yet to be seen, but this type of gameplay is now synonymous with the Persona name.

In addition, Persona is now known for its continuous narrative as well. Characters from Persona 3 exist in Person 4's story and vice versa. All of the events in the Persona games take place in one static universe. Persona 5 will most likely continue this trend. We will probably see the characters from Persona 4 grown up slightly, and, if Persona 4 Arena is anything to judge by, they will become far more badass. In addition, we still haven't really seen cameo appearances from the Persona 1 and 2 cast yet. It's about time that happened, no?

The bigger question is whether or not Atlus is going to continue pursuing their line of Persona fighting games. It's undeniable that Persona 4 Arena plays very similarly to BlazBlue, and when BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma comes out, much of the P4A community will be split. However, there are still aspects of the Persona universe that many fans would like to see in a fighting game context. Ken Amada, for example, was a fan favorite from Persona 3, and one of the youngest members of the cast. Seeing him in a fighting game incarnation would be quite enjoyable. It doesn't appear as if there is room for DLC in P4A, but there is always a chance for P5A after P5 comes out.

The Future of The Persona Series

In short, what started as a strange experimental derivation of the MegaTen series has taken on a life all its own. This is the persona we all know and love, and Atlus would be a fool to let it die. Personally, I can't wait to see the continuation of the Persona story. Hopefully Atlus will have more information for us in the coming year.
