God of War (2018) Cheats & Cheat Codes for PS4 & PS5

God of War (2018) is above all else, a love story. A story of forgiving oneself and creating a new future for those we love, and blowing up monsters’ heads with the power of supernatural Nordic ice axes. The 2018 ‘reboot’ of the God of War franchise comes from publishing and entertainment powerhouse Sony Digital Studios and developer Santa Monica Studio. While this installment of the God of War franchise has the same name as the first ever God of War published back in 2005, this is a direct sequel to Kratos’s story of battling the gods of Olympus in traditional Greek mythology.

God of War (2018) Premise

This version of God of War follows the story of Kratos, a former Spartan soldier who turned into the literal Greecen god of war after defeating Aries but at the cost of losing his wife and daughter. After leaving Sparta you step into the shoes of Kratos as he is morning the loss of his Nordic wife Faye in his adopted home of Midgard, an earthlike realm. With his son Atreus, they are tasked to take Faye’s ashes to the highest peak in all of the realms.

This version of God of War is one of the best on Steam Deck.

The game is a mixture of 3rd person open-world RPG hack-and-slash and linear storytelling. As you gain more experience through killing enemies, completing challenges, and solving puzzles throughout the realms, you have the option to expand Kratos’ skills in weapons, and Nordic supernatural powers like freezing enemies solid.

With a Nordic mythology backdrop in the game, the enemy types and lore will fall in line with old Viking stories and will react as such to your attacks and presence. You’ll encounter full dragons, gods incapable of feeling pain, frostbitten undead warriors, and even light elves. No two enemies are alike and you will have to adjust your playstyle and strategy to navigate the various enemy types.

God of War (2018) Characters

There are a vast number of characters throughout the events of God of War. However, Kratos is the only playable character. This isn’t to say that the NPCs on your journey don’t add anything to the story. Kratos’ son Atreus, the world’s smartest man Mímir, and the Vanir Godness Fraye all have a vital role in the story.

  • Kratos
    • Kratos is a literal Greek god therefore his physique resembles that. He is massive in height and size, and sports ashen white skin, red tattoos, a bald head, and a massive beard. His armor and clothing will differ from player to player as they find different items and upgrades.
  • Atreus
    • Atreus is the son of Kratos and now passed Faye. He is small even for a child, and has a number of nordic styled tattoos up his arms and hands. He wears various furs, and sports a bow and arrow everywhere he goes.
  • Fraye
    • Fraye is a supporting character in God of War and comes to the player as a nature witch. Due to a chance encounter, Kratos and Atreus meet her and she plays a vital role in the endgame of the main storyline. She is barefoot, tattooed, and dressed in various leathers and animal furs.
  • Mímir
    • Mímir comes as an expositional and comedic relief dump in the form of a severed head that hangs off of Kratos’ belt for the majority of the game. He is brilliant, sarcastic, and helpful. His head is covered in similar runic tattoos to Atreus, is missing an eye, and has small horns sprouting out of the crown of his head.
  • The Stranger
    • The Stranger comes as the main antagonist. He arrives out of nowhere and later attempts to haul both Kratos and Atreus to the feet of Odin for an unknown reason. He is incapable of feeling pain or dying. He is shirtless, covered in blue cryptic tattoos, and barefoot.

God of War (2018) Cheat Codes

As with most modern games, there aren’t exactly ‘cheat codes’ like the Komani Code. However, there are countless exploits in the code and various ways to circumvent certain challenges. These three we found most useful.

Lake of Nine Infinity Gold

This exploit is one of the easiest albeit a touch boring of ones to get a massive amount of resources. While in Midgard, hop in a boat on the Lake of Nine and paddle around the lake hitting all of the barrels and corpses that drop hacksliver and Aegir Gold. They respawn as you paddle around so rinse and repeat as necessary.

Golden Talisman of Protection

The Golden Talisman of Protection is a powerful talisman that can be found early in the game and is useful throughout the entire game. It is also easy to miss. You can get it as soon as you arrive at the Lake of Nine. It improves recovery time, increases defense when blocking, and slightly lengthens your parry window.

To find the Golden Talisman of Protection, go to Stone Falls. The location is northeast of the temple, available once you unlock the temple in the center of the Lake of Nine. You will stop at Stone Falls to access Veithurgard in the story, but you can visit this hidden area whenever desired. In Stone Falls, solve the puzzle to reach the bridge. Knock down the bridge after opening the door, go past the NPC spirit (circle back around to the door that leads back to the Revenant arena), lower the bridge, and use the lowered bridge. In the Revenant arena, you can access a new door to the right that contains a legendary chest with the Golden Talisman Of Protection.

Secret Legendary Treasure

To find a secret treasure with a Legendary Leviathan Axe Pommel called the Forbidden Grip Of Ages, complete the following steps. It increases all of Kratos’ stats and adds an explosive blastwave when he completes his standard light attack combo. Stand on the large golden circle in Muspelheim Tower, and quickly look to the indicated locations using the Right Analog-stick. Note: Muspelheim Tower is located in the south of the Lake of Nine in Midgard. It is accessed from the Lookout Tower boat dock once the water level has dropped far enough to reach the dock.

  1. Stand on Muspelheim Tower, south of Tyr’s Temple.
  2. Look straight ahead at Tyr’s Temple.
  3. Look to the left brazier on the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  4. Look back at Tyr’s Temple.
  5. Look to the right brazier on the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  6. Look to the left brazier on the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  7. Look back at Tyr’s Temple.
  8. Look down at the floor of the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  9. Look to the right brazier on the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  10. Look to the left brazier on the Muspelheim Tower deck.
  11. Look straight ahead at Tyr’s Temple to reveal the secret realm tear.

Briefly pause when looking at each location. If done correctly, you will hear a sound halfway through performing the steps and another sound once all steps have been completed. This may take multiple attempts. It is recommended to memorize the order before attempting it. For best results, stand between the two braziers (where the fires are burning) while facing Tyr’s Temple. The order of movements is Up, Left, Up, Right, Left, Up, Down, Right, Left, Up. After successfully completing all steps, a realm tear will appear. Interact with it to obtain the Legendary Forbidden Grip Of Ages Leviathan Axe Pommel.

Of course, every single treasure, exploit, and cheat would be impossible in a guide of this size. That’s why we made an expanded version that will satisfy even the most hardcore of game breakers and cheats. Take a gander here!

God of War (2018) Cheat Codes FAQ

Is there a cheat in God of War?

The long-short of it is simply no. Like most modern games, there are no codes or special button sequences that will give you infinite lives or a superpower like the games of old. However, there are clever workarounds and exploits within the game’s code that you can use to accelerate certain aspects of gameplay.

How do you use Cheat Engine in God of War?

Cheat Engine is a game modding engine that certain players will use to add new codes to existing games. Only use this engine in a personal experimental setting. Cheat Engine can spawn more resources and items in God of War but is only available for PC players or the most hardcore of console modders.

How do you get unlimited XP in God of War?

This one may or may not work depending on which version of God of War you have. This glitch is an exploit that will give 3500 XP on completion of the parrying skill challenge. You can repeat this glitch (if it still works on your version) infinitely. You’ll see under the Labors skill section, there will be an entry for perfect parries with your shield or ax. Upon completing 100 parries you will get 3500 XP.

So, once you get 99/100 parries kill the last enemy in the area and the game will autosave. Go off and find another enemy and get your last parry. Get your XP and then reload the game to your last autosave and rinse repeat. The experience and skill trees are saved in a different section than your Labors challenges and current place in the game world enabling the glitch to work.
