Parasite Eve 2 Review

By: John Doe

Aya returns in what is a highly anticipated sequel. Unfortunately things don't fair very well this time around. Control problems hamper what is an amazing piece of work that is more fun to look at than it is to play.

Right off the bat you'll notice that the visuals of Parasite Eve 2 are absolutely astounding. The backgrounds in the game are probably some of the best you'll find on the Playstation, and the characters, environments, and enemies all look incredibly detailed and well done The main character Aya Brea looks especially nice, with plenty of detail and beauty. The lighting effects used in the game are top notch, and really add to the game, as does a variety of the other eye candy in the game. The animation is also superbly done, looking very fluid and life-like. Overall there's very little to complain about in the graphics department.

The sound and music are also right up to the same standards as the amazing visuals. The game's soundtrack is very well done, and sounds like its straight out of a Hollywood Horror film. The music really adds suspense to the game and makes the tense spots even tenser. And the sound effects are also superbly done, with a wide variety of sounds ranging from super realistic footsteps to the spooky sounds of monsters. Like the music, these sounds help heighten already intense parts of the game, and help the game kick into overdrive.

The gameplay unfortunately has a lot of problems. For one, reloading weapons takes way too long, and makes battle situations usually very frustrating. Whenever you shoot your weapon, you often get severely chewed up by enemies while your waiting for your gun to reload. Also many of the puzzles in the game are mainly based around luck and are time-consuming and frustrating, such as finding a key randomly scattered throughout a large area to open a door, like finding a needle in a haystack. Though there are some fun and suspenseful moments in the game, often these moments are few and far in between, because the problems in the gameplay completely mar the fun, just like in the original Parasite Eve.

Overall, though the visuals and sound are really impressive, behind them is a poorly thought out and a frustration-loaded game. If survival horror is your bag, I'd really advise you to check out the other games in the genre before you check out this one, because frankly, they do it much better.
