Revamped Destiny Website Reveals Playable Classes

The official website fo r Bungie’s upcoming shooter Destiny has been revamped recently, and with the revamp came new information on the game’s classes, locations and enemies–all in well-presented and interactible titles.

The game’s classes– Titan , Warlock , Hunter –each have their little snippets of lore attached to them, and each have their own in-action video clips. The first Titans built the Wall, and gave their lives defending it, and they are as about deadly and as merciless as their enemies. Warlocks have been the ones studying the Traveler for a long time, understanding its energies and trying to figure out the true purpose of the actual construct itself, and they are driven by discovering the unknown. As for Hunters: they are risk-takers who once prowled the wilderness and wastelands in search for bigger rewards, and they are described rule-breakers who make their own luck and utilize their own daring and ingenuity. Parallels of these three classes have been drawn with the Holy Trinity: Tanks, Healers and damage dealers.

Destiny’s locations also have their own respective snippets of lore. Earth is now a shadow of its former self, and the last city in humanity is situated beneath the protective aura of the Traveler, and it is where Guardians defend and stand watch over humanity’s last civilization. Its neighbor, the Moon , is laden with scattered remnants of humanity’s greatness, and has been classified as a “Forbidden Zone” following increased enemy activity and strange tectonic phenomenon. Its other neighbor, Venus , was once a paradise, but now it’s considered a monument to all that humanity has lost, complete with stories of an academy dedicated to learning and research that is now lost. Finally, no-one knows what remains are buried underneath Mars’ sand dunes, other than there was once a massive metropolis that stood tall there; what little is known might as well be myth.

Finally, the enemies in Destiny are a force to be reckoned with: the Fallen , the Hive , the Vex and the Cabal . The Fallen are hardy creatures who can survive in a multitude of environments without protection. Employing guerrilla warfare, they travel light as much as they hit hard. The Hive have taken stead on the Moon, and have carved a kingdom deep within its core; they are a reminder of what incredible power that brought forth the Collapse. The Vex are reported to be mass-produced machines that are constructed of unknown material that resembles brass, and communicating with them has failed because they are as hostile as they are deadly. Finally, the Cabal are a professional military operation, where everywhere they march they have already dug in and have fortified installations; they are quite the force to be reckoned with.

Bungie announced during this year’s Game Developers Conference that Destiny will feature extensive character customization options. The developer  will be continuing to iterate on its customization system for Destiny until its launch. Along with being able to craft pieces of armor with various components, there will also be a decal and dye systems, allowing for color and gradients to be added to your armor pieces. Destiny will be releasing worldwide on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
