While you play the board game you'll unlock the minigames that you can later play in Challenge Mode. No more board gameplay here! However, you have to like the minigames to be excited about this feature, and with all the problems they have and being that there are only 15 of them, chances are slim. Of course, you can always play the Gotchi games, you have ten of them to choose from! Fun! Not so much, really…

If the rest of the game was good, graphics would be forgivable. Tamagotchis are adorable, and the environments are fancy, colorful, child-friendly, and cell-shaded into 3D forms. They're not that splendid but they're cute, which is mostly what you want from a kids game anyway. There are 15 different Tamagotchi characters available, each with their own charm, ready to conquer your heart. Even the die you roll is cute, with arms and legs, a red hat, and a rosy nose.

The soundtrack is a mix of that of Cooking Mama: Cook Off and the one broadcasted by the ice-cream truck: typical light-hearted Japanese tunes with funny voiceovers that you can barely understand. I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just what it is, a kids game all throughout.

Your kids won't really be able to play alone because in certain occasions they might not even understand the main premise of the game, if they're too young; having to be there, in charge of explaining the minigames and watching them play will be painful for an adult. So the kids that will find this game attractive are too young to understand it, the ones that will understand it probably won't be entertained by the game, and parents will find it a chore and a bore to stay and watch their kids play or play with them. That's not a good thing, is it? That's why this game gets a bad score after all, hoping that future games of this kind will be more carefully designed. Children can't be fooled!

    Rating Description

    3.0

    Graphics
How much better could the graphics be for a kids game with Tamotchis? At least they're cute!

    1.6

    Control
Faulty controls make some minigames unplayable and irritating.

    3.0

Music / Sound FX / Voice Acting
What? The ice-cream man came to visit again? Music could be better but it's not. It's fine, good enough for the game.

    2.2

    Play Value
If the controls had been better and the board gameplay had been a bit more fast-paced, this game could have reached at least a 3.
