Call Of Duty Leads The Sales Pack

Call Of Duty Leads The Sales Pack

None

The sales numbers for February are in, and it appears as if the video game industry did better than it did in January. That’s quite an accomplishment considering January is a month characterized by a high flow of post-holiday spending money. Hardware sales were up 62% with more people rushing to buy aging consoles. This number doesn’t factor in PS Vita sales, as it’s still the new console. If you factor in the handheld, hardware sales were actually up 87% from January.

Unfortunately, overall sales are down from 2011. In the same period last year, total video game sales brought in 1.33 billion dollars to the industry. This year, it only brought in 1.06 billion. Hardware sales are down 18% since last year, software sales are down 23%, and accessory sales are down 16%. This means that the software line-up just isn’t as strong this year as it was last year.

The leading game last month was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, followed quite surprisingly by Final Fantasy XIII-2, and then even more surprisingly by UFC Undisputed. That’s a shooter, an RPG, and a fighting game all in the top three slots.
