Activision Disputes Lack of Creativity Criticisms

Activision Disputes Lack of Creativity Criticisms

Activision is not a one trick pony according to CEO Eric Hirshberg . Hirshberg told Edge that “I’m certainly aware of all of the reputational perceptions out there but I think they’re incorrect and this is a company that has consistently made some of the most well liked and most played gaming experiences and that hasn’t happened by accident.”

This comes in response to those who have suggested that Activision isn’t taking any risks by sticking to its tried and true franchises like the Call of Duty series. Hirshberg counters this argument by pointing to its release of Skylanders, which was a huge hit in a gaming genre he calls “”unproven.”

Of course, it’s no wonder that Activison is sticking to its guns (so to speak) when it comes to its top franchises. After all, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 setting huge records upon its release, and entries into the series continuing to be a success, why mess with a good thing? I also don’t need to tell you how its (more or less) World of Warcraft franchise has changed the gaming world over the last decade, so when talking about “risk,” it’s important to take into consideration that Activison has already done more with the release of one game title than some developers do during their entire lifespan.
