Anniversary Update Brings Xbox One Owners New Features

Anniversary Update Brings Xbox One Owners New Features

Well, Microsoft’s Build conference was certainly a big deal for Xbox One owners. At the 2016 event yesterday, the company made four major Anniversary Update announcements that all have something to do with the console. Don’t worry, though, they’re all good.

First, your developer dreams will come true. The Xbox One is getting Xbox Dev Mode. It’s actually available today as part of a preview test, and will allow every Xbox One to act as a devkit. Normally, you have to get authorized and have a special system for that, but all consoles will be able to build and test UWP apps and games on their systems once it launches in summer 2016.

Also, the Xbox Store and Windows Store are merging after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that’s coming in summer 2016. You’ll be able to access the combined store on both consoles and computers. It’ll give access to games, bundles, and season passes.

The last two features aren’t as exciting as the combined stores and devkit feature, but still rather nice. Cortana, the Windows 10 digital assistant, will come to the Xbox One as part of the Anniversary Update. You have to have a Kinect to “talk” to her, though. Also, Xbox Ones will allow you to listen to background music during other activities, like the Xbox 360 currently allows.

Microsoft will have another Anniversary Update Xbox One announcement at E3 2016. No word on what it’ll be yet, but CheatCC will keep you posted!
