BioShock Infinite Announced

None

When BioShock was released in 2007, it quickly became a fan favorite, a sales success, and topped many outlets’ game of the year lists. While the game was great, much of the game’s appeal can be pinned on its unique setting, Rapture, a dark, leaky, and frightening underwater city. BioShock 2 returned players to this claustrophobic setting, although it showcased many portions which weren’t explored in the first outing. So in a city with a very limited amount of real estate to explore, how will the environment continue to feel fresh? The answer is to change locations.

Today, Irrational Games officially announced BioShock Infinite, which isn’t just the next sequel in the BioShock series. While the game shares the BioShock name, it will have its own storyline and city, rather than relying on what has already been established. Infinite will take place in a giant flying city called Columbia and will also involve the plasmid-like powers and guns that fans would expect from a BioShock title. Infinite is currently set for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime in 2012.
