Boss Key Production, developer of LawBreakers , announced last week that it is moving on from LawBreakers to focus on a new project that will be independently published. That new project has been announced today: It’s called Radical Heights , and it’s a free-to-play battle royale shooter with an 80s-inspired aesthetic. It’s also coming to Steam Early Access starting tomorrow.
Radical Heights seems to be a huge attempt at course-correction from Boss Key. LawBreakers was criticized for failing to stand out in its genre with a stale visual style despite its unique gameplay hooks. Radical Heights on the other hand, is really leaning on its 80s, arcade style. It’s loud and colorful, and the announcement trailer shows a lot of action inside a lovingly-rendered arcade (among other locations).
That said, there are plenty of distinct gameplay elements on display as well, including bicycles, trampolines, zip lines, and even some sort of ATM/bank system. One of the big hooks in Radical Heights is that money earned in-game by players can be carried over from game to game, and used to purchase various cosmetic items, or even gain earlier access to weapons during a round with stored up funds.
While Radical Heights is free and in Early Access, a founders pack will be available for purchase tomorrow for $14.99. It will include “exclusive items and bonuses.”
