Well that cat is out of the bag now, isn’t it? If you’re not big into the competitive online scene, there isn’t much for you to do in Street Fighter V. Though the game enjoyed reasonably favorable to very favorable reviews across the board, the most consistent criticism you’ll hear or see is in regard to the lack of single-player content. If you’re not sitting next to a friend who wants to play or going online to search for a battle lounge, you won’t have anything to do after your first run through the game’s disappointingly shallow story mode.
Challenge mode will be coming next month as part of a free update, but in the meantime, the only way for you to get a fight in with an NPC is to load up a training dummy in training mode, or take a crack at an underwhelming survival mode. There’s no traditional arcade mode; no standard, best-of-2 or best-of-3 fighting against various CPU controlled opponents with a boss battle at the end. Fans have been letting Capcom have it since day one, and it seems they’ve heard you loud and clear. In an interview with Forbes (via TechnoBuffalo ), Capcom responded with the following statement: “The team is looking into adding an Arcade Mode and we’ll have more information to share soon.” I can’t help but hope for a surprise Arcade Mode around the same time as the March update, but I won’t hold my breath.
