Don’t Worry, Star Fox Zero Gyro Controls Are Optional

Star Fox Zero hasn’t exactly received positive buzz on the E3 show floor. Our own Angelo found the game unplayable with its gyro controls, which require players to aim using the Wii U GamePad’s screen and maneuver the ship using visual information from the TV screen. It looked awkward to me when it was shown in the Nintendo Digital Presentation, and that impression has only been reinforced by people playing the game at the show.

I appears that this negative press reached the ears of Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata, who confirmed via Twitter that like in Splatoon , the gyro controls will be optional in Star Fox Zero . This was not the case in the E3 demo, but will be true for the final version of the game.

What may not be included in the final version of Star Fox Zero is an online multiplayer mode. Speaking to IGN, developer Miyamoto stated that the Star Fox team is currently focusing on creating the best single-player mode possible, but that multiplayer might enter the picture later on. Seeing as Star Fox Zero is currently scheduled to release this holiday season, I’m thinking we’ll have to wait for a post-release update, if mulitplayer makes an appearance at all.
