Well that didn’t take long. No Man’s Sky has been out for – what, two days? – and there’s already a game-breaking exploit netting players huge amounts of the rarest items. This isn’t especially shocking, but it is a bit surprising considering Hello Games recently implemented a sizable day-one patch in order to rid the game of such dirty tricks. That’s the internet for you. Anyway, with this latest exploit you’ll be able to duplicate your entire ship’s inventory, and all you have to do is die.
Here’s what you need to do. Make sure you clear our some room in your ship’s inventory, leaving only the items that you wish to duplicate. Leave the good stuff in there: Atlas Stones, Warp Coils, and the like. Save your game. Now head out into space and get yourself killed by attacking a freighter or whatever. Typically when you respawn, you’ll be able to venture out to your grave-marker and reclaim your ship’s inventory. You already knew that. What you didn’t know is if you load up your save file from right before you took off and died, you’ll have all of those rare items in your ship’s inventory, and your grave-marker will still be out there with the same items ready to claim.
If you have the patience to run through this cycle for about an hour or so, you could rack up tons of rare items, making you rich and getting you to the center of the galaxy much faster than you’d be able to otherwise. Obviously this can ruin the whole experience, so proceed only after due consideration. If you’re just a dirty cheat who wants everything all the time, then get on this; I’m sure Hello Games will be patching it very soon.
