E3 2016: Xbox Keyboard, Mouse Support Only “Months Away”

E3 2016: Xbox Keyboard, Mouse Support Only “Months Away”

During Microsoft’s E3 conference it was proudly reported that there were some oft requested features on the way for Xbox Live and the OS generally. Background music, clubs, looking for group channels, tournament communities… it’s all well and good, but there was one thing missing. Where’s the keyboard and mouse support? As Microsoft continues to bring its Windows 10 and Xbox communities together as one, this seems like the perfect time to accommodate such a simple demand.

According to Phil Spencer (a dangerous way to begin a sentence), keyboard and mouse support is closer than you might think. He thinks that Microsoft’s “Play Anywhere” initiative might gather more steam once PC developers see Xbox One players using mice. When asked about when this might happen Spencer responded (via VG 24/7 ): “I keep talking about it in the press and my platform team keeps shaking their head… Truthfully in our dev kit modes now keyboard works, mouse support is a little further away. I say it because I know it’s not years away, it’s more like months away, but we don’t have an exact date yet.” So now you know. They are working on it, and Spencer thinks that possibly by the end of the year it could come to fruition.
