EA Buys Out Plants Vs. Zombies Developer

EA Buys Out Plants Vs. Zombies Developer

None

PopCap, the creator of the quirky and infinitely adorable Plants Vs. Zombies, has been bought out by EA in a deal that could end up being worth roughly $1.3 billion. Adding the team that brought us some of the most addictive casual games in recent memory, including Bejeweled—which even made its way into World of Warcraft—is a huge step toward EA’s goal of growing its casual games department.

PopCap recently confirmed the news on their website. They even went so far as to jokingly list four new projects they’re currently working on, including: Sim Zuma: The SwampLife Edition; Peggle: Dead Space – Bjorn’s Breakfast; Bejeweled Battlefield Blitz; and Plants vs. ZombEAz: NFL Lockout Edition. Sadly, despite how amazing Peggle: Dead Space sounds, we won’t actually see any of these games.

So what does this mean for PopCap fans? Hopefully, we’ll get their games more quickly, thanks to their deeper well of resources now that they’ve teamed up with one of the largest publishers in the world. An example of this being one of the recent games, Bejeweled 3, will be making its way to consoles sometime later this year.
